FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

  • What are the different types of carpet fibres?

Carpet fibres can be natural or synthetic. Common types include nylon, polyester, wool, polypropylene and triexta. Nylon is durable and stain-resistant, making it suitable for high-traffic areas. Polyester is softer and more affordable but less resilient. Wool offers natural insulation and comfort, though it requires more maintenance. Triexta is newer and combines softness with durability, while polypropylene (olefin) resists moisture but may flatten over time.

  • Is carpet a good choice for people with allergies?

While carpet can trap allergens like dust, pet dander and pollen, modern carpets with low VOCs and tightly woven fibres can actually help reduce airborne particles. Regular vacuuming with a HEPA filter and professional cleaning remove trapped allergens. For allergy sufferers, low-pile carpet made from synthetic fibres is often a better choice, as it's easier to keep clean and less likely to harbour allergens.

  • What’s the difference between cut pile and loop pile carpet?

Cut pile carpet has exposed fibres that are cut at the top, giving a softer, more luxurious feel. It includes styles like plush, twist and saxony. Loop pile, by contrast, features uncut loops of yarn and is more durable and resistant to wear. Berber is a well-known loop pile type. Some carpets also combine both styles—these are called cut-and-loop and are often used for patterned designs.
