FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What is the difference between vinyl and hybrid flooring?
Vinyl flooring is a flexible material made from PVC, often used in sheet or plank form. Hybrid flooring combines a rigid core (typically limestone composite) with a vinyl top layer, offering greater durability and water resistance. Hybrid floors are more dimensionally stable and often perform better in high-traffic or moisture-prone areas. Both mimic the look of timber or stone but differ in structure, feel and installation method.
Is hybrid flooring really waterproof?
Yes, hybrid flooring is designed to be waterproof thanks to its rigid composite core and vinyl surface layer. This makes it an excellent choice for kitchens, bathrooms and laundries where spills and humidity are common. However, while the boards themselves resist water, proper installation is key—water can still seep between planks if not sealed properly, potentially affecting the subfloor beneath.
Can vinyl flooring be installed in bathrooms?
Vinyl flooring is suitable for bathrooms if installed correctly. Sheet vinyl offers fewer seams, making it highly resistant to moisture. Vinyl planks can also work well, but sealing between the joins is essential to prevent water from reaching the subfloor. Always use waterproof adhesives and consider adding a silicone bead around the perimeter to protect high-moisture zones.
