FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What are the different types of timber flooring?
Timber flooring comes in several types, including solid hardwood, engineered timber, bamboo and reclaimed wood. Solid hardwood is made from a single piece of timber and offers longevity and the ability to be sanded multiple times. Engineered timber consists of a hardwood top layer over plywood or HDF, providing stability with a genuine timber surface. Bamboo is eco-friendly and hardwearing, while reclaimed wood adds character and sustainability to the space.
Is timber flooring suitable for kitchens?
Timber flooring can be used in kitchens if sealed properly and cleaned regularly. Engineered timber is often a better choice due to its resistance to moisture and temperature changes. Spills should be wiped up quickly to prevent water damage, and protective mats near sinks and cooktops can help reduce wear. While durable, timber may scratch or dent if not maintained, so using felt pads under furniture is recommended.
How do you maintain timber floors?
Maintaining timber floors involves regular sweeping or vacuuming to remove grit that can cause scratches. Use a damp (not wet) mop and a timber-safe floor cleaner. Avoid harsh chemicals or excessive water. Rugs in high-traffic areas can help prevent wear, and it's important to place mats at entry points. Re-coating or refinishing the surface may be necessary every few years, depending on foot traffic and finish type.
